ChineseLunar New Year- 2023, the Year of the Rabbit

  • Madeleine Sutherland

Another year has gone by, and despite all the challenges in, and bigger than myself, I want (need) to make this year work. Rabbits are funny, resilient little creatures, full of fight and surprise (I didn't learn until we got one as a pet, that rabbits growl), yet they live fleetingly short lives. I decided to create an image using one colour- midnight blue. (white doesn't count). Rabbits play a part in Chinese mythology- the Moon Goddess Chang'e carried one with her to her fate. I've been trying to break into picture books for a long time. In a few weeks I will start a course in children's publishing. I'm still unsure about the course, but mostly because of the challenges and mental obstacles that I face. Here's a link to my Gofundme, if anyone wants to help a stranger out. https://www.gofundme.com/sign-in?redirect=%2Fmanage%2Fmaddys-childrens-publishing-mentorship-fees
