Chola for Humble Magazine

Chola is a term I came across when travelling in Peru. A pejorative term used to refer to indigenous women, funny enough it’s also used to describe Mexican-American women part of gangs in California. The huge social and economic devision in Peru’s main cities that I visited really caught my attention. Most advertisements have more caucasian looking models although that doesn’t quite reflect in society. Cholas, or the tribal, native women from Peru are seen as lower class, provincial and folkloric. I wanted to bring back the colours, the movement towards inclusion, to empower the cholas, the women that come from the country-side to the urban jungle.
