Commercial TAILORING // PEPLUMS AND PLAID // BY FRANCES PAULS

  • Frances Pauls
I designed the Peplums and Plaid tailoring design story for a 2nd year college tailoring project. The project consists of a trend board, mood and direction boards that cover hair, make up and accessory suggestions, an illustration line up and story boards with technical drawing flats for each outfit.

Inspiration, direction and mood:
My tailoring collection was inspired by the demure woman of the 1940's. I have taken a romantic approach inspired by both the Dior designs of the 1940's as well as the Gucci pre-fall 2013 collection as seen in my trend board.
I chose a palette of white and light grey which brings a clean modern feel to plaid.
I wanted to explore the use of a structured peplum within the tailored designs, as I feel that the peplum silhouette embraces the romantism of the 1940's.
I used clean panel lines, clean center front closures, structured cacoon shaped shoulders and structured peplums to bring a modernity to the collection.
