Communication and Jazz, D&AD Awards Project for Google & HMCT

This project aims to introduce jazz in London as a way to bring awareness towards society’s problem with connection. The genre emphasises good communication and the scene has created an environment that connects people. I shot these photos on HP5 film and push developed them, this meant I didn't use flash but worked with the other lights in the venues and played with how they could bounce off the instruments to highlight certain areas. The environments I shot in were intimate and a place of listening, I did not want to disturb the carefully crafted feeling the musicians produced and so shooting and developing the film in this way felt less intrusive and more focused on the beauty and joy the music created.
