CONNESSIONI +/-

  • Giovanni Crescenzi
The project develops around the concept of “creating connections”.
A “connection” expresses a tight bong between two or more things; my goal is to create a link between a new concept of preciosity and art in a creative way, precisely. My research moves in this extremely fluid and rich in project opportunities field.
“Connessioni” clarifies my vision of the concept of preciosity, which fits into the breach opened by Gijs Bakker, giving this way more importance to the idea of the project that places greater value on a customary metal through certain operations which exploit the technologies available on the market. The collection, composed of 3 pieces of Clothing/Accessories, starts by designing steel frames with 0.8mm sheets, which are very light-weighted and can be bent to provide a good fit to the female body. Small laser cut holes have been added to the metal sheets to simulate stitches. In order to “enlarge” the sheets, easily-transformable dresses have been attached to them through small bases. The aesthetic of my dresses is geometric; in fact, each dress has a well-defined perimeter by configuring the shapes such as circles, triangles, and squares with magnets inside. This feature generates an interaction between dress and end-user, who can decide to shorten the dress, make it pleated and add or remove pockets, also attached through magnets, meeting this way the need of fast transformation, a need our society has now more than ever. The dresses can, therefore, be customized and can vary according to different styles and needs, offering us the opportunity to create “new possible shapes”.
Polar opposites, such as textile and metal, attract. This is what best describes the concept of my collection.
