Consent, by design

  • Steve Price

500,000 reasons to take GDPR seriously GDPR (or General Data Protection Regulation) was a seismic alteration in attitude, and still is for those getting caught-up by it. Significant change to legislation that will likely remain long after Brexit. With eleven retail spaces, Norton Way’s group marketing and operations manager identified an opportunity to help further cleanse their data with their customers on the ‘shop floor’, but neither their CRM or DMS providers had any products to support Norton Way. We were tasked with designing a completely bespoke solution. A solution that sales-teams and front-of-house staff could use on (IP restricted) company smartphones and iPads to obtain new customers data and consent, or for existing clients to search for and check their data. This was not just about GDPR data and consent. This was a great branding opportunity; to converse with customers about how their data is used and stored, in a way that’s open, compelling and different.

We set Plan-B Studio an almost impossible task. Provide a simple solution to engage our customers, cleanse our database, provide a time-stamped signature from consenting customers, a data export from the application back to our DMS, automated checks to avoid duplicates. The list was extensive. We launched their Mundo app on time and on budget. It has since continued to be our B2C app across the business for in-store, data collection and GDPR consent.
