Controlled Chaos - Final Major Project

  • Jessica Bennett
Jessica Bennett is a fashion and textiles student at Portsmouth University. She has interned at fashion brands such as Tramp in Disguise and House of Sunny. Here she focused on bold prints, pattern cutting, and construction. This inspired her collection Controlled Chaos, which combines two contrasting elements of imprisonment and freedom.
This womenswear collection uses a clash of prints which emulates feelings of claustrophobia, combined with high necks and elasticated drawstring channels. This delves into mental and physical forms of feeling trapped or imprisoned by making the garments restrictive. Throughout the collection there is a mix of structured pleats and flowing ruffles in long length silhouettes. The unusual combination of fabrics adds a rich texture combining mundane fabrics with more modern bolder alternatives. The abstract floral embroidery breaks through netted fabric bursting with vivid colours. These bolder colours are splashed throughout using hand stitches, screen prints and digital prints.
