Coral Gardens

Coral bleaching is the initial inspiration for this collection. I wanted to capture the beauty of the living and healthy corals though my embrodiery. To gather primary research of the living corals I visited Bristol aquarium to photograph and draw the organic coral. I also referenced secondary imagery of corals found in Sir David Attenborough’s latest series of Blue Planet and in National Geographic Magazine. I wanted to capture the vibrancy of the coral and create highly textural, innovative and intriguing embrodiery. I have hand crafted my own embellishments from acetate which I painted to the exact shade and manipulated into the organic coral forms. Following a similar process I also laser cut my own unique sequins to the exact size and colour required for my artwork. I sourced a variety of beads including bugle, seed, ceramic and glass to perfectly complement my embellishments.
