Dear Pip,
With more than two years’ experience working across digital journalism and content I was thrilled to hear of your content and community co-ordinator vacancy; I’d love to extend my project management skills, flair for words and storytelling expertise to further engage, excite and expand The Dots community.
I have proven myself to be an ambitious self-starter by developing my written expertise as a reporter for The Santiago Times in Chile. I wrote timely news articles, feature-length pieces and photographic essays, performing under pressure to meet daily deadlines in a fast-paced office. Additionally, I pitched and produced journalistic copy for Revista Revolver, Chile’s leading digital arts and culture magazine, uncovering interesting local stories, such as one resident’s plight to expose the hidden meanings behind the region’s applauded street art. I’d bring a curious and resourceful attitude when writing stimulating content for both The Dots site and brand partners.
Whilst working for Hiive - the professional network for creative people - I was especially praised on my engaging, succinct and accurate writing style, positive attitude and ability to work within a team. I managed Hiive’s social media accounts, demonstrating an excellent attention to detail and curatorial eye when adapting content for the editorial demands of each individual platform to maximise audience engagement, whilst still maintaining a collective tone of voice.
Additionally, I proved myself to be a fast learner when using social media management tools to schedule campaigns, alongside analytics software to monitor audience KPIs and performance targets when informing a wider content strategy. I have a meticulous mindset and successfully proof-read and repurposed existing content and new submissions, as well as editing affiliated copy for the Creative Skillset website. From sourcing interviewees to developing partnerships with industry bodies such as Belfast Photo Festival, I have a personable and proactive demeanour. I’d be confident building relationships with influencers, exceeding client expectations and using my initiative to solve problems whilst providing exceptional customer service.
Finally, I’m an imaginative thinker with a genuine passion for the creative industries; I was shortlisted as one of the top 30 candidates out of more than 10,000 applicants for the highly competitive BBC Production Trainee Scheme, and continually devised multi-platform and audience-led content ideas. Having participated in the creative campaigning course ‘Shake! Young Voices in Arts, Media, Race and Power’ I collaborated with individuals of different ages and backgrounds, to hone our creative talents and effect positive change. I gained an invaluable insight into issues of diversity, access to opportunity and inclusivity which particularly affect the creative industries, and would gain immense satisfaction from working for a socially engaged start-up in line with my values.
As a creative network The Dots stands out to me due to its consistently slick aesthetic, aspirational content and impressive client base; I’d love the opportunity to contribute my skills, experiences and ideas to the team during such an exciting phase of development.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Charlie Duffield

Creativity beyond borders
The Dots Global believe that creativity is borderless; with more than 25% of our community based outside of Britain, we’re shining a light on our global cross-disciplinary user base by profiling some of our stand-out creatives overseas. Because there’s nothing quite like a metaphorical change of scene or breath of fresh air to usher in a new perspective.
It’s as easy as ABC..
Creativity is a boundless resource, but how can we utilise it for maximum potential during our frenetic day-to-day lives? Sometimes it’s worth going back to basics. We interviewed the movers and shakers at some of our favourite client companies for their best inspirational creativity hacks.
Meet Arts Sisterhood UK
If you’ve ever doubted the transformative power of art, pick up a paintbrush and join the sisterhood. In response to NHS cuts to mental health services, Ali Strick decided to set up her own monthly DIY art therapy classes for women and female-identifying people in the UK. Their sell-out success, and upcoming collaboration with TATE Britain, reveals the value in providing a low-cost space for creative catharsis, self-expression and solidarity. We spoke to Liv about how Arts Sisterhood UK blossomed from a small seedling of an idea, to a TATE endorsed programme, centred on harnessing creativity to create a better world.
Forward Thinking Film
There’s been a small revolution in the world of filmmaking. One which occurred in the blink of an eye; in fact you may not have noticed. When director Malik Bendjelloul ran out of money whilst producing his documentary ‘Searching for Sugarman’, he tossed aside the expensive and lucrative camera equipment and used his smartphone to finish the job. It took a mere 5 years for a billion humans to own one of these devices - owing to their portability they were instrumental in documenting the Arab Spring uprisings, and now they're a bona fida filmmaking device in their own right.
Playful aesthetics meet serious ethics
Fashion Revolution week is a global movement campaigning to make the fashion industry a force for good. Numerous designers now champion sustainable fashion practices, such as Katie Jones who embraces her granny's vision of creating something beautiful from nothing via boldy coloured and textured knitwear pieces.
