An excerpt from 'Wild Strawberries: An Introspective Look at Life' -

"In the early days of film, Swedish cinema made a name for itself, with a very particular style of filmography largely rooted in the esteemed production company Svenska Biografteatern, now known as Svensk Filmindustri (SF) Studios. Silent films from the likes of Victor Sjörström and Mauritz Stiller crossed international waters. Decades later, after the Second World War, one of the greatest international directors was Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.

"During this time, there was a marked shift in focus, where Swedish cinema looked closely at human psychology. Bergman’s work epitomised this, as he typically focused on individuals and their processes of introspection. Natural landscapes dominated, interspersed with social commentaries that brought attention to the internal psyche of an individual as they battled their own human condition. Wild Strawberries masterfully combines these elements, under the guise of a road trip, which introduces the passing landscape, and seeps further into the narrative through Isak’s dream sequences."
