The design of Critida's new olive oil label was intended to link the product with the long-standing Cretan tradition of olive oil production, from the Minoan era to the present. Studying this whole historical course, we came up with a sleek, simple design that, above all, marks the place from which the olive oil comes from. The inspiration came from the most important symbols of the Minoan era, the Labyrinth, which was designed elaborately and intricately by the renowned antiquity engineer Daedalus on behalf of King Minos. In our imprint, we designed a Labyrinth (maze) and in it, following a daedal path, we reach the creation of a valuable and unique product, the olive oil, which appears as a drop in the center of it. Its design was made using the method of linoleum engraving in order to give a sense of the engraved symbols of the Minoan era. The geometry is strict and is combined with the simple design approach on the whole label in order to highlight all elements of the concept. The colors we chose are gold and black. This combination, while intense, also is harmonious and manages to deliver more value to the product and impels the consumer’s eye.
