Crystal Crypt

"a speculated installation"

working on the smaller scales of crystal structure i wanted to create a human scale intervention exploring the microscopic world. for my sight in this installation, i chose st pancras church crypt.

a dark and damp hidden space, the crypt is home to both regular art and sculpture installations, and also 52 incumbent dead.

mapping the space, i cast a negative onto my plan, and using properties of the copper sulphate (CuSO4) crystals used in rodger hiorns' piece seizure, applied a materiality to the solid.

to fully realise the scene I wanted to achieve i then used the surface texture based algorithm or code to apply growth patterns to the crystal surface. i also cut sections from inside the structure to provide a mans-eye-view of the proposition.
