The City Talking worked with Leeds-based journalist John Baron to make some short films about stories he’s been covering in the city over the last few years; stories from the heart of the city. The second film was Cycling in Leeds.
Working with a data scientist, I created a series of data visualisations for the short film, utilising a mixture of After Effects, CInema 4D and Blender.
3 data sets were used to highlight the route of a new cycle highway, locations of cycle bays and city centre air quality readings.
The cycle highway uses map and GPS data from a cyclist to draw the route between the locations it bridges; the cycle bay visualisation uses topographical data to map the city landscape, which is populated by markers; and the air pollution index uses data to create a 3D map of an area of the city.
