D&AD New blood Award

Our submission for the Npower brief, D&AD New Blood Awards 2015. Working collaboratively with Natalie Zeitoun and Anna Vadillo.

Our application, ‘Watts the plan’, connects energy savings with activities. It quantifies energy use in a meaningful way. The application suggests various offers to the user; such as a bottle of wine, which they can get by consuming less energy. If the user decides to take an offer, the application will generate a progress bar which will inform them how much energy they need to save before obtaining it. By providing a reachable target, users clearly sees what they can get by saving energy, thus swapping an intangible saving for a tangible object. The application has a long term objective; to actively engage people in using their smart meters. Through the process of being rewarded for consuming less, we believe that users would later set higher goals for themselves; even if Npower doesn’t fund them. Moreover, the application will build new set of data; informing on user’s preferences and making offers tailored to them.
