David Lynch: A Retrospective Screening

  • Jacob Webb
This is a project that was entered into the 2015 D&AD New Blood competition, for a brief set by Monotype.
The brief was to create a new language of communication for advertising a screening of three or more of a particular director's films. The catch was that the designs could only use typography - no imagery was allowed to feature.
I chose to honour the remarkable David Lynch, and created a series of posters that reflect and challenge the generic film poster layout. The main theme behind the poster designs was to present the mixed opinions and theories of the viewers, in order to capture the essence of Lynch's works.
The film titles each represent the storyline and themes behind their respective films (spoilers?). Also created were a series of digital animations to be projected onto the screen prior to the showing, and during intermissions.
My choice of host for the event was Wilton's Music Hall in London (well worth a visit), which also functions as a bar.
I produced some small flyers to be placed over the tables there to attract attention and intrigue.
