Degree show pitch - As the crow flies

  • Tim Woolliscroft
Joint project with coursemate Tom Allport, our pitch for the Nottingham Trent - Graphic Design degree show aimed to return the focus to the students, after last years show stealing centre piece.

We wanted to visualise the idea that each individual in our year group, has direct route to the area of design that they want to go into, and that they would get there as the crow would fly. Spanning out from the centre point, Waverley. This centre point would of been represented by a giant pin in the middle of the show. (Where last years centre piece used to be.)

Our logo combines type travelling in its own direction, accompanied by 6 lines also travelling in their own direction.

We did not want a conventional catalogue as it was too clunky and did not work with our concept.

We came up with the idea of every student having their own A5 cards that would be displayed at the show.

The cards are effectively a stand alone brochure page/business card hybrid. Displaying work and contact details, along with a side profile shot of each student to show direction, and their parts of the logo.

As well as making going back to students easy for industry, we felt that this would give each student equal opportunity to get spotted as visitors collecting cards would want to see every student and give them equal time to ensure they do not miss anyone out that they would want. This enforced our idea of bringing the main focus back to the students.
