Dekmantel 2017 - Tomorrow's Artefacts

For Dekmantel’s 5th anniversary we made a film that attempted to pay homage to the legacy of the festival by bridging the gap between the future and the past. We designed a virtual world in which various artefacts are captured during a process of digitisation. The film explores various objects of antiquity as their outer surfaces begin to recede, giving way to scan lines and other analytical processes. The artefacts are being archived, perhaps protected for future generations. As this process unfolds the film goes on to depict the exterior hardware in which the digitisation is happening within. The film acted as a teaser to get fans of the festival excited before the line up was released. Throughout the film streams of code occasionally interject, within them were hidden clues about the yet to be released line up.
