Do the Right Thing the Musical

  • Jennifer Shinton
My most recent project was a musical adaptation of a film called Do the Right Thing; a 1989 American comedy-drama film produced, written, and directed by Spike Lee. The film tells the story of a Brooklyn neighbourhood’s racial tension, which concludes in tragedy on the hottest day of summer. Using Bill Lee’s soundtrack and score, I produced a 1:30 scale model, photographs of all 16 scenes, costume designs and a ground plan using AutoCAD. The musical would be showcased at the Birmingham Hippodrome and I would use a high end budget. My design provided innovative and powerful imagery to help support the text and give the audience a visual experience of storytelling.
