Domestic Life in Water

  • Robyn Young

I designed and created objects with typographic messages that communicate how we use water everyday. Water is spilling onto the objects displaying movement and our frivolous attitude to water consumption - much like the Romans who had a plentiful supply and therefore used running water to decorate buildings.

The posters would be displayed around Scotland as a public awareness campaign to be mindful of your water. However it is not intended to shame anyone into not using water, therefore the wording is friendly and confident.
This was a great project to practice photography. Using lighting and a simple background I photographed water splashing on the objects and then picked the strongest images for the posters. I had to ensure the photos were high quality and captured the object and water. I was limitted to a 35mm DSLR camera so to do this I experimented with my camera settings. The result was beautiful photos that captured movement and required very little editting.
