Dove Street Studio, Curation

  • Kate Esslemont
A three week curation project set alongside our individual collaboration with the creative writers from UEA. I was involved in the 3D design and spatial planning of the exhibition with two other students.

We worked closely with the graphic design team to create a strong visual identity.

Red became the leading colour for our visual identity, due to the original red detail throughout the exhibition space: red plug sockets, red stairs, red sofas. These pieces stood out to us, so rather than trying to disguise them, we utilised them. We used red edges on the display structures to outline the shapes which corresponded to the typographical shape of Ampersand.

We used a triangular form throughout the designs to enhance the height of the loft ceiling in the exhibition space. This shape worked coherently with the graphic identity as the triangle played on the ‘A’ in Ampersand.
