Emotionally Unavailable

  • Yan/Eva Wang

I get temporary pleasure from short-term relationships from time to time while I have hardly felt truly connected to anyone. Sometimes I am, or I am trying to behave emotionally unavailable to avoid potential pain. My photos attempt to convey this emotional state through the use of water, naked female and dummy. The similarity of the physical state in water and the emotional state in short-term relationships well expresses the conflict of pleasure and potential danger without solution. Being a female myself, naturally I set female as the lead. Being naked feels nothing attached and indicates sex, the typical way in short-term relationships to get temporary fix. I got the idea of using dummy from Bernard Faucon’s Summer Camp. The hollow and transparent dummy does not represent a specific person but just a temporary tool for pleasure. The hollow dummy does not sink and the female can float with it easily, corresponding to the moment of connection in short-term relationships.
