ENKÉPHALOS

The graduate capsule collection primarily explores the recovery process following a significant loss. While highly personal, it is a universal concept not unfamiliar to human nature.

The memories of her father and works of Rachel Whiteread, Judith Shea and Naoko Yoshimoto served to create a narrative surrounding the reconstruction of self. The designer’s choice of form, material and design methodology contemplates the spiritual element underpinning laborious processes and deliberate chance. Exploring medical applications and textual referencing eventually led to the development of an intuitive and accidental process in design.

The collection uses 3D Rapid Prototyping and conceptual patterncutting techniques based on principles of generative shape data and chance to create each indivdual garment. Natural fabrics such as silk and wool sit next to machined nylon as the designer looks for ways to blend 3D print seamlessly into a luxury collection.

Through an organic yet engineered approach to garment design, Enképhalos stands as a memorial to what was lost; yet its very creation has ultimately become a timeless symbol of cartharsis and a quietly hopeful resolution.
