The design of Italo Calvino’s book “If on a winter’s night a traveller” creates a sensory experience for the reader, allowing him to immerse himself completely into the book.

The story is composed of several chapters, themselves divided in two parts: the protagonists adventure and other books extracts. The adventure is to find a book the protagonist started reading, but because of a printing error from the publisher, he could only read the first chapter. During his quest, he takes us through 10 first chapters of different books which abruptly stop for diverse reasons.
Through his work, Italo Calvino challenges the rules of conventional book writing. In the same way, we decided to challenge and break the rules of conventional book design. Each chapter was designed individually, and has it’s own font, paper stock and style.
