Everyday living - Honours Report

  • Hannah Reid

As a part of my final and fourth year of Design, the first half of the semester consisted of a 5000-word report based around what topic we've individually chosen to study for the whole year. This project aims to explore emotion, experience, and sustainability while enriching the domestic ritual around entering and leaving home. Through investigation and research into homeowners' entranceways, the main frustration became apparent when people kept forgetting their essentials when entering and leaving the home. The entranceway space became cluttered, which no longer made it feel welcoming for visitors. This lead me in the direction of designing for experience, convenience, safety and sustainability. Forget the stress, not your keys. "Arrived" enhances the entranceway by creating ambience and a sense of welcome via a sensor-enabled, interactive light. It alleviates the stress of forgetting your items when leaving home with a gentle illuminated reminder from "Arrived".
