The Evolve Chair

  • Tom Robinson

Made from 100% recycled plastic, the Evolve Chair aims to change the public perception of waste materials. Evolve has now been nominated for 'Seating Design of the Year' at Dezeen Awards 2021. By treating recycled plastic with the same care and precision as wood or stone, Evolve presents this material as a logical, attractive and robust resource to build our futures. Importantly, this project shows how traditional woodworking skills and craftsmanship can be cleverly applied to new recycled materials - providing a new commercial outlet for furniture makers and manufacturers to evolve their craft. The chair's flat-pack components are hand-crafted and CNC milled, and then secured together with durable dry-fit joints, allowing the user to infinitely dis-assemble the chair without damage - using a single Allen key. Evolve has been nominated for the Index Project Award, and featured by Dezeen, Wallpaper Magazine*, LS:N Global, The Future Laboratory, Disegno and Elle Decor Italia. This project would not have been possible without the brilliant material supplied by The Good Plastic Company. All of their recycled products are carefully and cleanly produced from 100% waste plastic, with the lowest ecological footprint possible. EVOLVE’s material components are made from a single type of plastic, allowing them to be infinitely recycled.
