Exploding Cinema

  • Ben Slotover
Exploding Cinema is the UK's longest running film club. Starting in 1991, its goal is to provide a platform for emerging and established filmmakers to have their work shown in public. Films up to 20 minutes long are programmed on an open-access basis into regular shows. The shows have become a legendary fixture of the underground film scene and many successful film makers have got their start showing their films at Exploding. There have been articles about the work of Exploding Cinema in the national press and a documentary on Radio 4

I joined the organising team in 1998 and since then have played an active role in programming, publicizing and running shows, including all technical aspects of projection. As well as showing short films, Exploding Cinema seeks to push the boundaries of image display technology with a kaleidoscope of imagery on the walls of whatever location the show takes place in.
