Exploration

  • Maximilian Behrens
The student project "Exploration" illustrates three-dimensional models that can be steered through simple linear movements. The goal hereby is to break down complex constructions in order to explore their structure in more detail as well as spatially locate their individual components.
The control device consists of a round base, a movable construction with a built in monitor, and a handlebar that enables steering. Traction and rotation of the handlebar are read through a potentiometer, allocated to a position on an image matrix and reproduced on-screen. This allows control over the CAD model used. If necessary, the CAD model can also be exchanged for different items and reused in a new context. Here you can find a representative use case of a washing machine that is esxpecially suitable for "Exploration" due to its cubic form, its many small parts and complex hidden inner structure.
