Façade - TSPTR Zine - NTU - 2019

  • Rebecca Weir

For this project the brief was to ‘remix’ my previous zine ‘Best Before’ for client TSPTR. I kept to a similar theme of trusting the timing of your life. But in this issue, I wanted to investigate how social media affects young women’s expectations for their lives. I conducted consumer research looking at the concepts of FOMO and flex / glow-up culture and Gen Z’s tendency for ‘I’ll be happy when...’ syndrome. Which lead me to create my big idea 'Encouraging women to be content with where they are now and let go of the unrealistic expectations created by the façade of social media.' I conceptualised my idea with a futuristic and surreal aesthetic to match the dreamy illusion that social media creates. I then produced my outcome creating a beak book zine called Façade. Despite print not being an outcome that came as naturally to me, it allowed me to challenge myself to produce work in a different media format. https://www.rebeccasophieweir.com/facade
