FALL 2020 TREND REPORT: THE RED DRESS

  • ANGELA BAIDOO

Red has always been a symbol of power, passion and even good luck, we associate it with fiery romance or pulsating as the lifeblood of humans, so seeing it adopted across all four fashion cities came as no surprise. At a time where women are taking back their power and standing up in their sexuality unapologetically, the red dress, in shimmering sequins, draped chiffon or ruffled moire appeared like a beacon on designers runways, from New York to Paris. The Red dress featured prominently across the Autumn Winter 2020 season, from a sequin bedecked floor-sweeper at Valentino, to the structured mini at Alexander McQueen, fashioned from heart-shaped guipure lace, these dresses were made to stand out, and in these uncertain times, should be adopted as a sign of defiance and resilience. Whether on a red carpet, in a board room, or on a protest march.
