Conceived exclusively for Central Saint Martins Museum in 2013, White Line Projects collaborated with collections curator Anna Buruma to curate this exhibition in both its physical and digital form, which placed its focus upon work created by Joyce Clissold and the Footprints Studio in the 1920s and ‘30s.
The physical display gave a visual overview of the intricate nature of the textiles and garments with their high level of detail and rich colourings. One textile piece within the display showed the dying and printing process of the Footprints Studio in Chiswick, whilst the other textiles and garments shown were examples of the studio’s signature themes.
Whereas the Window Gallery display was a chance to view the pieces up close, the online exhibition placed the collection in the context of the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study Collection, where visitors had the opportunity not only to see the pieces first hand, but also to handle them. The online exhibition was also an opportunity to showcase the items too fragile for public display and smaller ephemeral pieces, capturing the essence of the pieces, which also gave a sense of the physical nature of a museum store.
