Open packaging brief! This was a chance to create an identity and a package for any product—it didn't even have to be a real product—as long as it was a boutique, luxury product.
Background
I invented Frá Ösku, an Icelandic cosmetics company that uses volcanic ash to create its products. Ash is a mineral rich material that has been used for centuries by traditional Icelanders to create healing salves. The company's secret is to use cymatic resonance to separate the ash to get the best, most potent part of the ash. It is technical and traditional. It is eco-friendly and unique. It is from ash. It is Frá Ösku.
Concept
This brand is ALL about drama and luxury! The dieline for the package had to be different to anything anyone would have seen before. It had to be something really special. Since the product uses volcanic ash, I wanted a pyramidal shape but I wanted curves in there too to soften it up a bit; the product is a cream after all! The brandmark is again a combination of hard and soft and references chladni patterns (from resonance experiments on sand). To really bring out the shape, I created patterns using the mark used to differentiate each variety of cream. This brief was so much fun it still makes me smile! Legendary!
