GALLERY DESIGN WITH AN ART DIRECTION/SET DESIGN APPROACH, WORKING WITH AN EXISTING SPACE AWAY FROM STREET LEVEL WITH THE INTENTION OF DESIGNING A SPACE THAT WOULD BE TRANSPORTIVE AS WELL AS TRANSFORMATIVE.

_CONCEPT_I_Initial concept for Mayfair gallery. With more of a set design approach, the existing volume was to be dressed with screen walls made of light-weight timber and a muslin fabric screen. One side being an area where work can be displayed, the other a surface for light to cast a shadow.
_CONCEPT_II_Developed concept for Mayfair gallery. Due to the new linearity of the existing as a result of the landlord's decision to build a partition wall through the centre line of the space, the partition wall has been re-thought and altered into a hollow frame. The new frames allow for the line of sight down the space to go uninterrupted, instead merely populated by a series of vertical and horizontal gestures that add intrugue to the eye. Furthermore, the frames allow for a curated journey through the space, instead of a linear walk down the length of the site.

The screens are instead used in combination with the existing south facing windows to filter the intense daylight coming through into a soft ambient lighting sculpture that moves over the course of the day.
_LIGHTING_FUTURISM_In order to add a more modern aspect to the nature of the design, RGB light strips have been introduced to the existing windows so that the screens can act as a futurist contrast to the less synthetic aesthetic of the overall gallery design. Permeating the space with a neon glow, the screens now become synthetic windows into a future London that's painted in colours of a retro future.
