Frederick's Collection

  • Claudia Bögli

Frederick's Collection was a project done during my first year of university. The brief was to create a font for a museum, I chose the Horniman Museum. The name refers to Frederick Horniman, who gave his name to the museum, which is filled with his personal collection of objects accumulated during his various travels. Frederick Horniman decided to make his collection accessible to the public, as it was his wish and opinion that everyone should have access to knowledge of art, nature and culture. The museum is very child friendly and invites its visitors, young and old, to explore it with a child like wonder. So I made sure that the font would be playful and fun, just how the museum is. The font, composed of different recurring shapes, represents a collection itself, using each shape to create the letters.
