From Dump to Loom

Cables are used in different industries such as building trade, electric industry, transportation industry, chemistry, paint industry and jewellery. We can see that wires and cables are being used in every part of our daily lives.

Then why shouldn’t they be in our clothes or in textiles that we use?

With the wires inside, fabric can act almost like a sculpture and it can be shaped easily. By using this feature strong structures can be created. The main reason to create sculptural garments is to emphasize the high and immediate obsolescence rate and to highlight that we are actually harming ourselves by devouring all mechanical items. The other outcome is to point out that they could be re-usable by upcycling them. It is not necessary to use them only as cords but by being inventive; other ways such as being incorporated into a functional garment or artwork can be created. Therefore they can be useful and given a new life.
