From Dusk till Dawn

  • Stella Cattani
This project consists in a small theater wherein the penumbra becomes a visual performance, during the day. The space is composed by three different stages: dawn, midday and dusk. The transition of the light, through the stretched ropes and the holes of the surfaces, produces different visual effects.
The disposition of the ropes causes the beauty of the penumbra into the space and the stratification of the elements smoothes the daylight. In the “dawn” the ropes are arranged vertically in order to obtain stretched shadows. They represent the beginning of a new day. In the “midday” the small holes produce a strong detachment between the light and the shadow. This contrast is typical of the warmest hours of the day. In the “dusk”, the ropes are arranged in order to obtain a twine. It plays along with the light and creates a snug space.
