'Global Fusion', Spring/Summer 2017

  • Olivia Burgon
This spring/summer interiors collection will be an amalgamation of cultured pattern and colour, infused with influences from the traditional decorative forms found within William Morris tapestries. Inspired by these bold and undulating forms I intend to develop my own unique and stylized floral patterns. Fusing this traditional floral design with the contemporary colours and patterns found within Indian and Islamic cultures has brought together a ‘Global Fusion’ of styles. Through the adoption of traditional screen-printed processes alongside digitally printed designs, I intend to form an authentic hand rendered approach to this collection. I hope to develop a quirky, bold selection of statement pieces that are marketed towards a high-end target audience who are particularly drawn with fondness to the concept contemporary living. I am particularly interested in exploring the traditional patterns of my design research, particularly William Morris, and will use these elements to generate contemporary and stylised interpretations. From researching Indian cultures and patterns found on buildings I was instantly drawn to the bold, almost clashing colours that are so often utilized. This fusion of bold and bright colour became the basis of my design development. I intend for my interior style to bring an element of intrigue and curiosity to the viewer, and a notably bespoke feel to the designs.
