GRADUATE FUTURES WEEK 2019: HOW TO BUILD RESILIENCY INTO YOUR CAREER IN FASHION

  • ANGELA BAIDOO

Coordinated by Careers and Employability, Graduate Futures Week aimed to support graduates to get ahead in the creative industries and make a living doing what they love. There were 46 events this year; all designed to help prepare for employment. Sessions ranged from: 1:1 Careers or business advice, through to practical advice on marketing, and resilience. There were also inspiring talks from alumni and partners including The Dots, D&AD, Dezeen, and many more. I couldn’t have asked for a better platform to present my workshop on ‘How to Build Resiliency into Your Career in Fashion’ than at the place where it all started – The University of the Arts London. As part of this years Graduate Futures Week, which had the tagline of ‘Create Your Own Future’, I had the opportunity to assist in empowering UAL students and graduates to harness the power of resiliency throughout their careers, by learning to anticipate any obstacles they may face, take every setback as challenge to do better, and applying the practice of self care to their everyday working life. The Careers and Employability team selected my proposal out of the dozens they received, and I was humbled at being given the chance to give back as an alumni, and to all those who I was fortunate enough to connect with after my presentation, I look forward to working with you in the future.
