Grassroots

Grassroots is an exploration of amateur football in the UK. In recent years, a national funding crisis has seen community football struggle with funding to keep their teams together and to access the most basic resources. As a result, opportunities for boys and girls to play football in their community are severely diminished. In Britain, amateur football has always been a place where you feel you can belong; a togetherness no matter what your background, religion, creed or sexuality. This series of photographs depicts the struggles and the life of amateur football, and what it means to those involved who simply show up week in and week out for the love of the game.
