Green Kaunas. Picture Notebook

Kaunas City Museum souvenir notebook. The edition includes XX century photos from the museum archives. At the begining of the 20th century, Kaunas started to expand rapidly adding new suburbs. The surrounding natural and rural territories have been transformed into new urban areas. Obviously, this way the natural landscape was industrialised: wetlands were drained or streams were sewered. Nevertheless, attempts were made to preserve its most valuable elements. In the press of pre-war independent Lithuania, concerns about the most picturesque places necessary for a healthy lifestyle were expressed, particularly Ąžuolynas and Panemunė.
