Offering opportunities to artists from Hackney Wick
For the 2015/2016 editions of Hackney WickED Open Studios, Unit G Gallery teamed up with the festival's organisers to establish an art competition that awards a local artist. Currently enjoying the highest concentration of artist studios in Europe, Hackney Wick and Fish Island are a melting pot of emerging and established art makers.
Co-ordinating the studio visits and being part of the selection panel, I established numerous contacts with the East End arts scene. Finding great interest in the compelling statements expressed by the community of artists there, I have birthed great collaborations which she still refers to for curatorial substance.
The winner of the competition is given a solo exhibition at Unit G Gallery from I have respectively been working with Mick Dean and Cristina BanBan.
