Helping Hand

  • Emma Burns
Brief:
Design, name and brand a new piece of wearable technology, to help Dementia patients live an independent life after early diagnosis.

Concept:
Patients suffering with early stages of Dementia lose their short-term memory, struggle to solve problems and perform everyday tasks. Also, to stay independent, it is crucial for patients to keep in touch with relatives/carers to get support when they need it. It is difficult for them to do this, as they don’t have the cognitive thinking required to use current technology.

Solution:
Helping hand is a device that can respond to any question or command, make calls, and create reminders and alarms. It also has a dock and phone app to keep in touch with relatives and carers. It uses a legible typeface, simple graphic symbols with a blue and white colour scheme to give a
calm impact. A snap on wristband for ease, one button that is voice operated to minimise confusion, and an easy to use dock/phone app for carers to alter settings.
