Henley Women's Regatta Website

I was lead front end developer on this demanding project. Being involved at almost all stages of development, from planning through building and launching allowed me to develop a wide range of skills.

We created a new website for HWR, to celebrate their 30th regatta. I was initially required to work closely with clients to establish a clear plan for a new complex web project. Then I worked closely with backend developers to ensure appropriate functionality was built. I was also responsible to the designers to ensure that the new brand was accurately displayed across a wide range of devices. And finally I trained the sites new admins in how to use the managment tools.
This web site was one of the more complex projects I have worked on, it was required to provide a high level of flexibility for administrators, while largely relieving them of creative considerations. It also needed to integrate and display data in a variety of ways around the site from a live feed of results from the event. And it also needed to have e-commerce, be fully responsive and support legacy browses.
The part of this site I am most proud of is the “flexible builder” (it's alot like this project builder!). I had often found the mocks ups that designers and clients handed me resulted in templates that were too rigid. So when handed a design I had started to split it up into modules and make a tool set that could be ordered and reordered to build any page. This was the first project where that concept was baked in, so mock ups were made but these mearly represented possible combinations that a admin might use. I found this approach allow a degree of separation of development from content creation. I could build up modules confident that functionality would be available globally. The pattern library created by the designers helped me to build the site efficiently and accurately.
