HERsteria - Applied Theater 2025

A show devised by the Year 13 Applied class, HERsteria was the result of research exploring the objectification of women throughout history. This stemmed from concerns about women's safety and experiences in society. Since January, the company has conducted extensive research and initiated challenging conversations, and throughout my tenure I have seen the Company exhibit commitment, thoughtfulness, and respect whilst navigating a topic that is sensitive and can be both misrepresented and triggering

Hersteria covers 4 distinct periods: the 1800's focusing more on the end of the century (concept of hersteria and the rest cure, the 1950s (the perfect wife and domestic women, the 1980s (girl power), and the present day (exploitation of femininity and mass misogyny.
For this show, I returned to the Office of the Stage Manager. In this post, I got to lead an intimate-sized crew (9, including me) with a slightly larger cast (22 people). I was lucky enough to have a Leo Spence to return as one of the set designers and Phoenix working in costume. They have helped get me through all my Brit shows since my tenure on Shakespeare. I also had the chance to work alongside to up and comming technical designers Samuel Walton (lighting) and Carla Rowe (sound), with Alice King heading up the costume team and Arabella Cunningham acting as co-set designer.

midway into the rehearsal process, our Talented DSM (Chanise 'Chinese' Allen) went on a short sabbatical to join the crew of MJ on a 6-week placement. In her absence, I stepped in as a DSM cover sharing her job with the ASM (Lily Cade) to ensure the attendance of the department in rehearsals and their documentation via the completion of reahersal notes
