Humans can only confess to Something rather Somebody

It is also a manifesto about the alienated relationships between humans. The project discusses the indescribable connections between humans and objects, especially when people are suffering from extremely painful and harsh emotions, which is impossible to tell anybody else about how one feels. However, people still need to confess to something. In this situation, I confess to a “thing” rather than a person. I displayed three narrative films and related 3D printed objects. The films are about three individuals with different social positions. They all suffered from excruciating emotions and couldn't tell anybody else, as the result, they confessed the emotions into a meaningful object. During the research, I got many similar feedbacks from interviews. Especially from “normal people”, who seems to have a good life, have a good family and some good friends. However, these make them even harder to tell others about their feelings when faced with something terrible. Nobody will try to understand and empathize people who live a “not so terrible” life. This is the reason why he created three “normal” characters in the films. He wanted to show how despair and struggling they are. How alienated they are from their friends, families and society. What they feel and experience. These are happening in real life. I speculated all the objects could understand and record humans’ behaviours and emotions. Therefore, the surfaces of the objects are distorted after they recorded more and more behaviours and emotions. The objects made negative emotions and connections between humans and objects tangible and became the symbols of the indescribable, hidden parts of humans. In the show, the objects were connected to the projectors to project the films on the wall, which made the whole installation became the “emotional connection” itself. The films explained the antecedent, and the objects themselves became the result of their owners. Based on EEG data, I visualized different negative emotions into patterns. EEG is an equipment which records our brain waves; different emotions cause different brainwaves. The patterns accumulated in the films and surfaces of the objects are closely related to the situation of the person.
