Hurray for the Riff Raff - Live at Koko for Ramble on Records

Tonight audiences felt the presence of singer-songwriter Alynda Segarra otherwise known as Hurray for the Riff Raff take to the stage like a kinetic force to be reckoned with.

With a Puerto Rican flag draped across the keyboards, tracks such as Life To Save and Nothing’s Gonna Change That Girl reimagines the folky twang of Americana with Hispanic flourishes that are deeply rooted within Segarra’s recent album The Navigator.

Hungry Ghost captivated fans with Segarra’s introspective lyricism and electric display of tenacity, dancing frequently on stage as audiences stood utterly transfixed. Living in the City was filled with youthful exuberance whilst Rican Beachexhibited Segarra’s resilient objection to urban gentrification.

However, it was Pa’lante, a Spanish affirmation that means ‘to move forward’ and Segarra’s rousing cry to all those that have felt marginalized, that reverberated around the venue walls and shattered listeners hearts.

With every pa’lante uttered, the word circled and soared sparking fires in people’s chests and provoked fans to collectively thrust their tightly clenched fists into the air.

It was a poetic, mesmerizing act that will linger long in the hearts of those who witnessed such a spectacular performance.
