Hyde Park

  • Mr. Smith
In my series entitled ‘Hyde Park’, I began drawing such things as, a pile of brushed leaves at the side of the road. Considering every leaf, twig, crumpled crisp packet and fag end as an object in its own right, delineating its form in ink. , I 'focused on the park floor and how nature organises itself, picking out the boundaries of each object to emphasise that every fragment has its own separate identity, its own origin and mode of decay—the leaves that shrivel and crack into dust, the branches that are eroded by woodlice and insects, condom wrappers that will last for millennia. Each has its own separate visible form and role to play in the life of the park’. (Quoted from Peter B Lloyd’s review)
