I WANT TO BE SAFE IN PUBLIC

  • Polina Belenchuk

Sarah Everard’s tragedy is so scary because I know that in her place could’ve been any woman, including myself. Unfortunately, every woman has a story about men’s inappropriate behavior. I want to believe that one day this is going to change, our streets are going to be safe and women don’t have to be alert 24/7 in public when they are alone. It is my duty to express in these posters how I feel in public on my own so often. When strangers abuse my personal space and dare to ask inappropriate things, I feel like I want to hide, disappear and cry. One of these pictures was taken at a place where an unknown man made me uncomfortable. I based one of the characters on Sarah Everard. My thoughts go out to her family and friends.
