Illustration of an article about the nutrition problem caused by the outbreak of COVID-19

Because of the Coronavirus lockdown and the "stay at home" order, some of the most vulnerable people - working every day only to afford their most basic needs, have been left helpless. In some of the least developed countries, this situation led to the famine crisis. As my consultant said "more people in Zambia will be killed by starvation than the virus itself". The illustration presents a tableware, where the plate is taken over by the virus. My goal was to draw it so it resembles both - a concave plate and a sphere. I believe that especially when it comes to difficult and delicate subjects, minimalist illustrations work better with readers' imagination than straightforward photographs. It also helps us preserve the dignity of the people affected by the problem - we are not picking a "face" of an issue.
