Imagining a smarter coffee machine for the Keurig K Cup ecosystem

  • Vinod Pillai
The Keurig K Cup coffee machine aims at being the power horse starting up machine for many thousands of people living life in the fast lane. It’s perfect then, takes out the complication and the variability in making a very consistent cup of morning mojo fix. But ‘how could we make it better?’, was what Keurig came to Moonraft for. The following is a concept proposal conceived for the purpose of answering that very question.
To come up with a concept we had the classic case of ‘fixing something that wasn’t broken’. With the coffee machine itself, you just had to press one button to get started and that was going to be difficult to top to make it any simpler.

The concept was aimed to aid in the busy lives these individuals were living by making it least known of the machine’s existence.

We designed an app and some circuitry in the coffee machine that let the two talk to each other. The app let us explore the richness of a mobile device and plugging all the user-delight in the palm of the individuals. We retained certain things like, one big button to make your favorite brew.
While the app served the need of using the individual’s time optimally by letting them catch up on their social feeds, it also needed a layer of it efficiently utilizing its communication capability with the machine.
The app keeps track of the K Cups critical levels and can be set up to automatically place an order for supplies so you never run out. To add great vanity value to the whole thing, it not only comes with a display of holy-smoking-cruel-sharp looking gorgeous profile photo, but also all sorts of fancy-ass life critical statistics and infographics to beat the quantified self out of your life!
