INFRINGE Magazine: Cult Hair Portraits

James Dawe combines abstract CGI-3D fragments with clean collage cuts to give a modern approach to each portrait.
"My vision for the series was to be influenced by the persona emanating from the original portraits of each individual – as well as the styling, colour and attitude of the photographs. Most importantly we had to let ‘hair be the hero’ as it’s a big part of their character and INFRINGE’s content.
Manipulating the imagery using favoured techniques as well as experimenting with new ones, I wanted to mix abstract CGI-3D fragments with clean collage cuts to give a modern approach to each portrait. The more obscure and unexpected the better – letting chance take its course. When working with well shot portraits I have found success in limiting the amount of images used, so with this project I have often focused on only one or two of the original portraits and repeated them in curious ways, adding graphic details to enhance their character afterwards"
